Overview

AbleVets, LLC is a fast-growing Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) providing healthcare information technology services and resources to help the VA and DoD improve the lives of the people they serve. AbleVets has an opportunity for an experienced, motivated Cyber Security Engineer to support healthcare information technology projects for our customers.

Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate must be well-versed in security documentation, cyber security tools, intrusion detection, and secured networks. They must have familiarity and experience in the implementation of cyber security regulations and development of long-term strategies to continuously improve the overall security posture of an organization. Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Identify security risks through the analysis of known information
  • Assess the Cyber Security risk of IT systems documenting them in formal risk assessments and supporting artifacts associated with the Assessment and Authorization (A&A) process, including System Security Plans
  • Organize, develop, and present security briefings, written summaries, and written reports incorporating narrative, tabular and/or graphic elements on A&A activities
  • Implement IT security solutions and assure successful implementation
  • Apply knowledge of security principles, policy and regulations to daily tasking
  • Provide IT security engineering support to cross-functional project teams to ensure that VA security policies, processes, procedures, and controls are adhered to, planned for, implemented throughout the project lifecycle
  • Provide an analysis of how VA currently employs and embeds Cybersecurity into its tools, design and development methodologies, and Application Programming Interface (API)/service driven architecture
  • Establish standard operating procedures for embedding security driven processes into the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
  • Effectively and efficiently communicating and collaborating with external and internal customers to analyze and monitor a projects security posture and status
  • Work directly with VA project teams to provide security engineering expertise and observations and recommendations where appropriate

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or other engineering or technical discipline; eight (8) years experience may be substituted for education requirement
  • At least 5 to 8 years of related experience in security risk analysis and mitigation strategies
  • Experience with Cyber Security document management and familiar with security and privacy rules associated with Risk Management Framework and NIST 800-53rev4
  • Intermediate technical knowledge of information security concepts and technologies, including security incident management, change and configuration management, and computer network defense services
  • Experience with securing networks and firm understanding of security operations including resolving network security technical issues and identifying solutions to mitigate security risks
  • Experience with securing networks
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Excellent written skills for preparing reports and briefings
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • CISSP, ISSEP, or CCSP
