AbleVets, LLC is a fast-growing Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) providing healthcare information technology services and resources to help the VA and DoD improve the lives of the people they serve. AbleVets has an opportunity for an experienced, motivated Senior Accountant to oversee disbursements, account reconciliations, assist with internal control policies and procedures and more within our fast-growing company. This position is located in our Chantilly, VA office.

Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities

This individual should be a hands-on specialist in all fields of accounting, be very organized, possess exceptional communication skills, and enjoy being a member of a team. The ability to multi-task, efficiently manage processes, accruals, reconciliations and compliance reporting, as well as coordinating with members of other departments is essential. The ideal candidate for this job is a resourceful problem-solver who knows how to manage workload to ensure timely, accurate processing of transactions. Duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage the disbursement function (accounts payable and expense reporting) through Costpoint
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts
  • Maintain monthly accruals
  • Review live check and EFT/ACH file feeds for accuracy
  • Review accuracy/completeness of Purchase Requisitions prior to PO generation
  • Maintain accounting documentation files on Sharepoint
  • Prepare weekly Open A/P report for CFO for cash flow planning purposes
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies with vendors
  • Prepare local and state tax compliance filings
  • Support the annual audit function
  • Special Projects as assigned

Minimum Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
  • CPA or eligible CPA candidate
  • Proficient in all MS Office applications
  • Proficient user of Costpoint 7.1
  • 4+ years of experience in the government contracting industry
  • Knowledge of CAS and unallowable costs required
  • Proficient in cost accounting as well as managerial accounting concepts
  • Self-starter who is very organized
  • Supervisory experience or experience leading special projects desired
  • Detail oriented and comfortable working in a fast-paced office environment
  • Exceptional communication skills
