    AbleVets, LLC, is a fast growing Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) providing healthcare information technology services and resources to help the Veterans Affairs (VA) and the Department of Defense (DoD) improve the lives of the people they serve. AbleVets has an opportunity available for an experienced, motivated Senior Software Engineer/Technical Lead to support healthcare information technology projects for our customers. This position is located in our Chantilly, VA office or remote.

    Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities

    This position is for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to work in a fast-paced, Agile environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical leadership and architecture guidance for health applications using VistA. The successful candidate will participate in the full system lifecycle including analysis, planning, implementation, testing, documentation, and operations. The software systems engineer is assigned to the most complex independent technical tasks and functions as a team lead, directing and coordinating the technical work of all team members to complete projects successfully.


    • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum of 10 years related experience.  Degree should be in computer science, electronics engineering, or other engineering or technical discipline.  Five (5) years’ experience may be substituted for degree.
    • Minimum of 4 years of technical leadership of VistA systems development
    • Hands-on experience with VistA, including programming in InterSystems Caché class objects and object script
    • 7+ years experience analyzing, designing, and implementing integration solutions using the InterSystems technology stack (M/MUMPS, Caché, Ensemble)
    • Experience leading project teams utilizing an Agile delivery approach which supports incremental development of high-quality, fully tested application component delivery every few weeks
    • Good understanding of object-oriented and domain-driven development principles
    • 3+ years hands-on experience in developing APIs, RPCs, and clinical application code using Caché Mumps or COS (Cache Object Script)
    • Must be a “team player” and have excellent written and oral communication skills
    • US Citizen – no dual citizenship
    • Ability to obtain a public trust

    Additional Desired Qualifications:

    • Experience with VistA Pharmacy Package
    • Experience or familiarity with Delphi and Java
    • Experience implementing the Rational Jazz tool suite
    • Section 508 Compliance knowledge
    • Active VA clearance and PIV strongly desired
