    AbleVets, LLC is a fast-growing Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) providing healthcare information technology services and resources to help the VA and DoD improve the lives of the people they serve. AbleVets has an opportunity for an experienced, motivated Chief Architect to support our customers. Working closely with project managers and stakeholders, the Chief Architect will architect and implement complex software and hardware solutions for various customer IT systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the design of technical strategies and architectures, providing guidance on implementation processes, techniques and tools, and leading and/or participating in coding of software features across one or more IT system projects.

    Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities

    The Chief Architect will work to understand customer needs, validate solutions, and define and create the architectural depictions and documents to ensure seamless integration and address all customer priorities, including performance, functionality, ease of use, and security considerations. The Chief Architect will provide technical expertise, direction, and leadership to develop and communicate the program vision. Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

    • Serve as Lead Technical Architect on a large, enterprise IT program with responsibilities to include—
      • Define and oversee implementation of engineering architectures for a large, mission-critical Federal portfolio
      • Provide direction, guidance, and hands-on support to development efforts
      • Provide architectural support to cross-program dependencies and shared services
      • Lead and direct a team of technical architectures to ensure a consistent engineering methodology and to perform quality assurance
      • Write product specifications and design documentation for system components, organizing review and/or release of documentation as required
    • Serving as a lead, customer-facing interface point with senior government stakeholders on matters related to program architecture and technical solutions
    • Work closely with other program leadership to implement solutions within a formal, scaled agile engineering environment including leading value stream/solutions architectures
    • Lead application development with an Agile approach that supports incremental development of high quality, fully tested components, delivered every 2 weeks
    • Lead build planning, demonstrations, and execution
    • Overall roadmap management, including prioritizing workflow and defining releases
    • Proactively manage and prioritize sprint backlogs according to business value, complexity, and expectations
    • Write product specifications and design documentation for system components, organizing review and/or release of documentation as required
    • Ensure product release readiness for customers and end users
    • Assist development and test teams with acceptance testing, troubleshooting, load testing, capacity planning and performance tuning as required

    Qualifications

    • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or equivalent scientific or technical discipline; ten (10) years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education
    • Ten (10) years technical architecture experience, including a variety of programming languages, platforms, and operating systems
    • Ability to lead technical professionals in a highly collaborative, team-based environment
    • Hands-on experience developing or customizing enterprise-level software solutions
    • Extensive knowledge of and experience with software development lifecycle and processes, specifically in Scaled Agile and Scrum
    • Ability to facilitate and coordinate efforts with key government and non-government stakeholders
    • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
    • Must have previously served as a Lead Technical Architect for a large, federal solutions development effort
    • Must be able to travel when needed
    • This position may support a government contract and have access to classified or government protected information for which US citizenship is required
    • Ability to obtain a Public Trust

    Additional Desired Qualifications:

    • Desired experience includes:
      • Significant knowledge and or experience with DoD and VA infrastructure
      • Intermediate technical knowledge of information security concepts and technologies
      • Familiarity with risk management and a proven track record in successful project execution
    • Demonstrable, hands-on VA information technology experience
    • PMAS/VIP and ProPath experience
    • Rational toolset experience
    • Certified Scrum Master or Coach
