    AbleVets, LLC, is a fast-growing Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) providing healthcare information technology services and resources to help the Veterans Affairs (VA) and Department of Defense (DoD) improve the lives of the people they serve. AbleVets, has an opportunity available for an experienced and motivated senior cyber security engineer to support our VA customer. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing system security engineering and Cybersecurity support to the VA to secure applications and networks. The senior cyber security engineer has IT experience with NIST 800-37,” Guide to Applying Risk Management Framework to Federal Information Systems,” NIST 800-53rev4 “Security and Privacy Controls for Federal Information Systems and Organizations,” Cyber Security Policy and security engineering principles. The successful candidate must have strong organizational management, analysis, reporting, and problem-solving skills.

    Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities

    Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

    • Managing customer relationships and collaborating with teams accross the customer organization to improve processes, results, and customer experience
    • Implementing the Cyber Security requirements of IT systems and applications documenting them in formal security engineering documents using Risk Management Framework and supporting artifacts associated with the A&A process
    • Developing risk mitigation strategies to resolve vulnerabilities and recommend security changes to system or system components as needed
    • Performing an information security risk assessment through the security impact analysis, system risk assessments and technology security risk reports
    • Ensuring all systems security operations and maintenance activities are properly documented and updated as necessary
    • Organizing, developing, and presenting security briefings, written summaries, and written reports incorporating narrative, tabular and/or graphic elements on A&A activities
    • Applying knowledge of security principles, policy, and regulations to daily tasking
    • Providing IT security engineering support to cross-functional project teams to ensure that VA security policies, processes, and controls are adhered to, planned for, implemented throughout the project lifecycle, and providing strategic cyber security support for OIS
    • Establishing security engineering standard operating procedures for embedding security-driven processes into the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
    • Experience working in the FedRAMP cloud environment understanding IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS regarding cloud service provider security control responsibilities and customer responsibilities
    • Effectively and efficiently communicating and collaborating with external and internal customers to analyze and monitor a project’s security posture and status
    • Engaging with VA client on security matters

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in computer science, electronics engineering, or other engineering or technical discipline is required with twelve (12) plus years of experience
    • At least twelve (12) years of related experience, including experience with:
      • Risk Management Framework
      • Application Software Security / threat modeling
      • Authorization Requirements Process for Federal Government
      • Information Assurance
      • FISMA and/ or FedRAMP requirements
    • Proven leadership ability with solid interpersonal skills and demonstrable team building skills
    • Expert technical knowledge of risk management, and information security concepts and technologies
    • Experience with Cyber Security document management and familiar with security and privacy rules
    • Excellent verbal communication skills
    • Excellent written skills for preparing reports and briefings
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to facilitate and coordinate efforts with key government and non-government stakeholders
    • Ability to obtain a public trust clearance 
    • Previous Government contracting work experience

    Additional Desired Qualifications:

    • CISSP or ISSEP or CCSP
