    AbleVets, LLC is a fast-growing Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) providing healthcare information technology services and resources to help the VA and DoD improve the lives of the people they serve. AbleVets has an opportunity for an experienced, motivated Software Engineer to support our customer. This position is perferred in our Chantilly, VA office or may be remote.

    Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities

    This position is for a Software Engineer to work in a fast-paced, Agile environment. The successful candidate is responsible for participating in the full Agile application development life cycle for new development design, construction, and testing of mobile and web-based health applications. The Developer will also participate in peer reviews and unit testing, and must be adaptable to different responsibilities, possess strong communications skills, and have a passion for constantly improving the individual and team effectiveness. Duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

    • Design, develop, and enhance existing VA production applications using a wide variety of technologies including .Net Framework 4.x, Windows Forms, and WPF
    • Independently research technical solutions and product functionality
    • Develop within an Agile delivery approach which supports incremental development of high-quality, fully tested applications every 2 weeks
    • Adhere to, promote, and maintain development standards and best practices; participate in code reviews on a regular basis
    • Monitor production support issues and develop corrective solutions
    • Assist and provide direction for both development and test teams in activities with all areas of testing and troubleshooting
    • Support technical documentation deliverables
    • Proactively seek opportunities to implement improvements in personal and team processes
    • Contribute to an atmosphere of cross-functional teamwork and collaboration within the organization, and contribute responsibly to acceptance testing and functional testing


    • Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, electronics engineering, or other engineering or technical discipline
    • 8 years of demonstrated, hands-on development experience within an Agile environment
    • At least 8 years hands-on experience with Windows .Net development
    • Knowledge of VistA and integrated business applications
    • Familiarity with source control tools including Git of TFS
    • Experience with dependency and package management solutions such as NuGet
    • Experience with a wide variety of unit testing tools such as NUnit
    • Healthcare industry experience

    Additional Desired Qualifications:

    • Hands-on VistA (Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture) experience
    • Familiarity with 508 Compliance
    • MUMPS development experience
