  • Overview

    AbleVets, LLC is a fast-growing Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) providing healthcare information technology services and resources to help the VA and DoD improve the lives of the people they serve. AbleVets has an opportunity for an experienced, motivated Technical Lead to support healthcare information technology projects for our customers. The Technical Lead will be responsible for providing technical leadership, architecture guidance, and hands-on development support. This position is located in our Chantilly, VA office. 

    Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities

    • Effectively lead a cross-functional scrum team, including supporting engineering and development delivery, technical deliverables/artifacts (architecture, installation instructions), and release activities
    • Provide technical leadership for the full system lifecycle to include requirements analysis, planning, implementation, testing, documentation and operations
    • Develop stable, scalable code in support of customer requirements using 12 factor app guiding principles; revise, update, refactor and debug as necessary
    • Identify technical risks to the project and make recommendations
    • Lead collaboration across teams to provide a technical solution compliant with the design and interface definitions
    • Develop documentation throughout the software development life cycle (SDLC)
    • Utilize Rational to create, update, and track current development tasks
    • Ensure execution of quality technical deliverables within established schedules, provide estimates during sprint planning

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electronics engineering, or other technical discipline and at least twelve (12) years of related experience. An additional six (6) years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education
    • Experience supporting the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) or other Federal Government Agency is required
    • Prior experience with Spring Boot and Spring Microservices
    • Demonstrated experience as a Java developer
    • Demonstrated experience analyzing, designing, and implementing integration solutions using Java and related technologies
    • Experience with Agile incremental delivery approach which supports incremental development of high-quality, fully tested application component delivery every 2 weeks
    • Experience with Agile frameworks and regression testing
    • Experience with user interface web applications
    • Experience developing technical architectures
    • Ability to understand front-end users’ requirements and a problem-solving attitude
    • Excellent analytical and organizational skills
    • Self-starter that can work under general direction in a highly collaborative, team-based environment
    • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance

    Preferred/Desired Skills:

    • Master’s degree in associated technical field
    • Previous Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) experience, specifically within Health Information Technology (HIT) areas
    • Certified ScrumMaster (CSM)
    • Experience with FHIR and HL7
    • Experience leading software development teams
    • Current security clearance and GFE is a plus
