  • Overview

    AbleVets, LLC is a fast-growing Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) providing healthcare information technology services and resources to help the Veterans Affairs (VA) and Department of Defense (DoD) improve the lives of the people they serve. AbleVets has an opportunity available for an experienced Front End Developer to support a community/managed care program initiative. This position is located in our Chantilly, VA office.

    Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities

    • Develop stable, scalable front-end code in support of customer requirements
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide a technical solution compliant with the design and interface definitions
    • Participate in new development starting with requirements analysis and design, provide estimates during sprint planning
    • Coordinate with back-end engineers to understand and levy requirements of the back-end application
    • Implement test-driven development methods, supporting an end to end testing
    • Provides story point estimates for enhancements and new features
    • Develop documentation throughout the software development life cycle (SDLC)
    • Create, update, and track current development tasks
    • Refine user requirements and identify areas for enhancement


    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electronics engineering, or other technical discipline and at least five (5) years of related experience. An additional six (6) years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education
    • Experience with eHealthExchange technologies and standards
    • Experience working within an Agile Development environment
    • Demonstrated experience performing front-end development using Java/J2EE
    • AWS Cloud platform experience
    • JavaScript Framework UI experience (React.js or Angular.js preferred)
    • RESTful/SOAP SOA experience
    • Experience with ETL technologies such as Informatica or similar
    • Security/ATO experience to include SAML, SSL, TLS, VA PIV, etc.
    • Experience with SQL databases such as Oracle or SQL Server
    • JavaScript Framework UI experience (React.js or Angular.js preferred)
    • Experience with ETL technologies such as Informatica or similar
    • JSON/XML/EDI messaging format experience
    • Excellent analytical and organizational skills
    • Self-starter that can work under general direction in a highly collaborative, team-based environment
    • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance

    Preferred / Desired Skills:

    • Master’s degree in the associated technical field
    • Previous IT work experience supporting medical management programs, i.e. VA Community Care, Veteran’s Choice, and/or VA Patient-Centered Community Care Network
    • Demonstrated experience working within the Community Care or Managed Care fields to include: Referral Management, Claims Processing, Disease Management, Appointing, and/or Utilization Management
    • VA DAS Interfacing experience
    • OCR Interface experience
    • Microservices experience to include using Docker or another similar technology
    • Continuous Delivery (CD) or Continuous Integration (CI) experience
