  • Overview

    AbleVets, LLC is a fast-growing Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) providing healthcare information technology services and resources to help the Veterans Affairs (VA) and Department of Defense (DoD) improve the lives of the people they serve. AbleVets has an opportunity for an experienced, motivated Application Developer to support our VA customer. This position is located in our Chantilly, VA office.

    Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities

    • Develop stable, scalable code in support of customer requirements
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide a technical solution compliant with the design and interface definitions
    • Participate in new development starting with requirements analysis and design
    • Implement test-driven development methods and support an end to end testing
    • Provides story point estimates for enhancements and new features
    • Refine user requirements and identify areas for enhancement

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electronics engineering or other engineering or technical discipline is required with a minimum of five (5) years of relevant technical experience. An additional eight (8) years of related experience may be substituted for degree requirement. 
    • Experience should include technical system architectures using a variety of programming languages, platforms and operating systems
    • Familiarity with object-oriented concepts with languages like Java or .Net
    • Experience with scripting environments like PowerShell, bash or AutoHotkey
    • Hands-on experience developing or customizing enterprise-level software solutions
    • Knowledge of and experience with software development lifecycle and processes, specifically in Scaled Agile and Scrum
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Self-starter that can work under general direction in a highly collaborative, team-based environment
    • Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance

    Preferred/Desired Skills:

    • Current VA access is highly preferred but not mandatory for this position
    • Experience with the Department of Veteran Affairs, tools, processes and frameworks
    • Scripting in a Microsoft Windows environment
    • Desired experience includes:
      • Significant knowledge and or experience VA infrastructure
      • Intermediate technical knowledge of information security concepts and technologies
      • Familiarity with risk management and a proven track record in successful project execution
      • Rational toolset experience
